Thanks to the guys at DavisDVD.com, we became aware of a news item
posted at Jim Hill Media, which lays out Disney's major new DVD releases for the next 18 months.
Most of it isn't related to television; the majority of the listings are home versions of Disney theatrical films, plus the Mouse's usual direct-to-video sequels (like Lion King 1 1/2).
But the exciting TV-on-DVD news in this report is that
the Lizzie McGuire TV series is supposed to come home on December 9th! This is hot on the heels of the 8/12 home video release of
The Lizzie McGuire Movie, also reported at the Jim Hill site.
Given
Lizzie star Hilary Duff's popularity, and the interest in the movie (the opening weekend box office take exceeded the filming budget, despite being up against
X2), it's no suprise that Disney would capitalize with a holiday season release of the series. There is nothing here that tells us what type of release this will be, but Disney's past patterns clearly indicate a best-of DVD.
Also on tap for a Dec. 9th release (according to Jim Hill Media) are two
Recess DVDs: "5th Grade" and "All Growed Down." The latter may be the same item as a reported European direct-to-video release called "Recess: All Grown Up." Another
Recess release is tentatively planned for far in the future: 8/17/2004's "1st Day of School."
Keep in mind that this is unverifiable information, and even if it represents an accurate release plan today, that plans often change and nothing is set in stone. Hey, even the titles may change!
