In September of 1974, "Little House on the Prairie" made its TV debut, and it has remained an all-time American family classic ever since. The show was a top-rated series throughout its nine seasons on-air and has continued to be an on-air staple ever since in cable and syndication. Based on the best-selling books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this series was nominated for 17 Emmy Awards and 3 Golden Globes, and has captured the hearts of viewers around the world.

While this is the dramatic, gripping story of a young pioneer family's struggle to build a new life for themselves on the American frontier of the 1870s, the show's timeless themes of love, strong morals and rich family values still resonate and inspire us today. Loyal fans will relive these exciting adventures, and new viewers will discover the Ingalls' unconquerable courage as they strive to build a better way of life.
Back in March 2007 we reported that Lionsgate Entertainment had picked up the rights to distribute Little House on the Prairie on DVD. At the time we didn't know if that meant new releases, or just continuing the distribution of Canada-based Imavision's existing USA releases of the seasons sets, plus the package of post-series telefilms. As it turned out, it meant the latter, since Lionsgate has not announced the release of any new packages for the series.

Until now, that is!

Retailers have informed us that today Lionsgate began listing a November 4th release on their schedule a "complete set" package for Little House. This is described as a "complete collection of the beloved classic...(a) 60-disc set (that) includes all 9 seasons and 3 movies, along with 3 discs filled with new special features!" No details were made available so far about those special features.

It is listed as having full screen video, with English 5.1 audio, and will be closed captioned for the hearing impaired. The running time provided is 10,032 minutes. While there were no pictures of the packaging made available yet, it was described in the studio information this way: "(It) will be a collector's favorite with one-of-a-kind wagon shaped album package!"

Make of that what you will; we're not sure if that means an actual model of a covered wagon, or just a book shaped like wagon. However, we must admit that the wording reminds us of a child's "board book" that is about trains, where the book is cut out to be in the shape of a train. Could this be the same concept? We'll have to wait and see...but a model would be much cooler, of course. Especially at the cost: $279.98 SRP is the list price. Of course at 60 discs, that comes to $4.67 a disc, which isn't bad. And it will be discounted at retail; it probably wouldn't be too hard to get it for under $200 street price, we think. No guarantees, though! This is all the info we have at this time, but stay tuned and we'll update you if we find out anything more.
