Yesterday we
reported that Lionsgate Entertainment is preparing a brand-new
Little House on the Prairie - The Complete 9 Season Set on 55 DVDs, planned for release on
October 18th at $149.98 SRP. This new package replaces Lionsgate's discontinued "
Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Television Series" 60-DVD set from 2008, which cost almost twice as much. You can see the old release's "binder-that-looks-like-a-covered-wagon" packaging
here, which fans weren't all that fond of. Now our retail industry friends have sent us Lionsgate's images of the new package, and it's interesting to note that it keeps the cool-looking covered wagon look, but makes that an outer slipcase for a different type of "book-style" disc holder. You can see those images below.
We'd also like to address all the questions we've gotten from readers about whether this new release contains the same syndicated-broadcast edits of the episodes previously used on DVD, or whether Lionsgate has gone back to bring fans the original longer versions.
We don't know for sure either way right now. We've asked the studio about this, and are awaiting a response. However, our honest expectation is that this set will continue to use the same versions of the episodes as we've seen on DVD in the past. Still, if we find out that the episodes' cuts are any different from what was offered before, then we'll certainly let you know!
