Respond2 Entertainment, a.k.a. "R2," is putting together yet another classic TV-show-on-DVD release. This time it's
This Is Your Life - The Ultimate Collection, which will feature 18 original
This Is Your Life episodes. The contents of this 3-DVD box set will span all kinds of different honorees: actors, actresses, musicians, Olympians, etc. Price is still pending, but they are looking for the around-$40-range.
This legendary show has never been made available on any home video format. It will be launched as a Direct Response TV campaign (infomercial) this fall, with a March 2005 retail store release. They're working directly with Ralph Edwards Productions on this TV classic. The
TIYL library consists of over 500 shows, none of which have ever been made available on any home video format. As a start, the initial DVD collection will contain a potpourri of 18 half-hour shows - spanning many genres. The shows were selected based on fan requests Ralph Edwards Productions has received over the years, plus wanting to showcase a wide variety of categories, decades and honorees. The list below is the current planned content, assuming everything clears.
- DVD 1:
- Comedy Legends
- George Burns
- Laurel & Hardy
- Sirens of the Silver Screen
- Bette Davis
- Jayne Mansfield
- Country Music Heroes
- DVD 2:
- 50's Rock & Roll

Given the age of the show, and that they were done live, there won't be any "extras" on the DVDs. However, the set will contain a
This Is Your Life collector's booklet within, featuring photos and a synopsis of each show.
