Liberty's Kids tells the story of the American Revolution through the eyes of two young apprentice journalists working in Benjamin Franklin's print shop in Philadelphia. This award-winning series is filled with action, excitement and drama and takes child and parent alike through a revolution borne of a single glorious ideal-freedom. The show debuted to critical acclaim in the U.S. on PBS in 2002, following the history of the American Revolution and combining powerful storytelling and stylish traditional animation with an A-List roster of celebrity voices who bring heroes and values to life.
The cast is led by Walter Cronkite, who stars in each episode as Benjamin Franklin, and includes Michael Douglas (Patrick Henry), Warren Buffett (James Madison), Dustin Hoffman (Benedict Arnold), Whoopi Goldberg (Deborah Samson), Billy Crystal (John Adams), Annette Bening (Abigail Adams), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Baron von Steuben), Ben Stiller (Thomas Jefferson), Maria Shriver (Peggy Shippen), Liam Neeson (John Paul Jones) and Sylvester Stallone (Paul Revere). The title song is performed by teen superstar Aaron Carter.
The DiC-produced animated series
Liberty's Kids has made it to DVD before:
in stores, as a special "education organization" (school) package, as part of a
Reader's Digest offer, and was even given away as part of a
cereal box pack-in promotion.
Those releases are all discontinued now, and none of them ever had offered most home-based consumers the opportunity to collect the show's entire run. That's going to change this Fall, though, because Shout! Factory and DiC are teaming up to bring you all 40 "revolutionary" episodes, starring the voice of Walter Cronkite in his Emmy-nominated role, on a 6-DVD set titled
Liberty's Kids - The Complete Series. Details, pricing and box art haven't been finalized yet, but Shout! has told us that they are planning to make this available on
October 14th.
We're glad to bring you the scoop on that today! Stay tuned and we'll bring you more info and updates, as soon as they're available.
