Republic City is everything that Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko fought for when they ended the Hundred Year War. With balance restored to the four nations, benders and non-benders can live together in peace, in this thriving metropolitan area. But even the steampunk paradise of Republic City has its problems, as the next Avatar discovers. When Avatar Korra arrives in Republic City to master her airbending, she comes face to face with criminal bending gangs as well as members of a vocal anti-bending revolution.
Before long, Korra's Avatar skills are put to the test when she encounters a group of Chi-blockers led by the charismatic and mysterious Amon, who threatens the city and all the benders in it. Despite the immense danger, Korra vows to fight the growing anti-bending revolution. But will she be able to stop Amon before he rises to power and makes his vision of a bending-free world a reality?
Nickelodeon's The Legend of Korra, a sequel and spin-off of Avatar: The Last Airbender, debuted with "Book 1: Air" this past April, a 12-episode half-season of the show. The 14-episode second half of the debut season, "Book 2: Spirits," is slated to begin broadcasting in 2013...with plans to finish the show's run with two more "books" which together form the 26-episode second season. Cast includes Janet Varney (Dinner and a Movie), David Faustino (Married ...with Children), P. J. Byrne (The Game), Seychelle Gabriel (Falling Skies), J. K. Simmons (the Spider-Man films), Mindy Sterling (iCarly), Dee Bradley Baker (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), prolific voice actor Steve Blum (Transformers Prime), and Eva Marie Saint (North by Northwest, On the Waterfront, Superman Returns) as "Katara."
With the second book being planned for broadcast in the new year, fans have been anxious to know when to expect DVD releases of the show. Or even IF to expect them soon: with the original show, the DVD came out as single-disc releases first (like "Book 1, Volume 1" and so forth) before coming out later in a "complete book" multi-disc package. Fans didn't appreciate the single-disc releases so much last time around, so it's no surprise not to see them with Korra. However, will there be a "The Legend of Korra - Book 1: Air" DVD release before "Spirits" starts to air? The below trailer video, posted recently to YouTube by Nickelodeon, seems to indicate that this might be the case! All the scenes shown are from the first book's 12 episodes, and it finishes with a very definite "Coming Soon to DVD" tag. Our thanks to reader Shane O'Neal for pointing us toward it! Take a look at it below, and stay tuned for updates as further developments occur!
