Since the dawn of mankind, we have stared up at the lights in the sky and wondered...
Now join the heroic men and women who have dared the impossible on some of the greatest adventures ever undertaken: the quest to reach out beyond Earth and into the great unknown of space! To celebrate 50 years of incredible achievements, the Discovery Channel has partnered with NASA to reveal the epic struggles, tragedies and triumphs in a bold chapter of human history.
Along with the candid interviews of the people who made it happen, hundreds of hours of never-before-seen film footage from the NASA archives - including sequences on board the actual spacecraft in flight - have been carefully restored, edited and compiled for this landmark collection.
Image Entertainment, the Discovery Channel and NASA have teamed up for the DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of the landmark series
When We Left The Earth - The NASA Missions. Both formats will be a 4-disc set with six episodes narrated by Gary Sinise (who played the key role of astronaut Ken Mattingly in the film
Apollo 13): "Ordinary Supermen," "Friends and Rivals," "Landing the Eagle," "The Explorers," "The Shuttle" and "Home in Space". Running time is 258 minutes. You'll see interviews with such legendary NASA figures as Gene Kranz, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, Bob Crippen and John Young, just to name a few.
The DVD release features anamorphic widescreen video with English Dolby audio, for $49.98 SRP. The Blu-ray Disc release improves on that with high-definition widescreen video and English - DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 audio, at a cost of $69.98 SRP. Both are scheduled for release on
September 30th. Here is a look at packaging for each of them:
