Since Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The 4th Year just came out two weeks ago, why is the 6th Season the next release? Because Universal Studios decided to release the 2004 Season (Season 5) three years ago, between the first and second season DVD sets, in an experiment to see if fans would be more interested in getting the most recent episodes first on a current-running show. Needless to say, fans have been confused for a while as a result, and we're just getting past it all.
Now, while fans are eagerly waiting for the strike-interrupted 9th season to get back on the air, Universal has announced an April 1st release of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The 6th Year on DVD. The five single-sided discs will cost $59.98 SRP, and come with 23 episodes.
Guest stars will include Lea Thompson, Ming-Na, Dana Delany, Anne Meara, Kyle MacLachlan, Judith Light, Mariette Hartley, Mary Stuart Masterson, Barry Bostwick, Hayden Panettiere, Matthew Modine, Martin Short, Alfred Molina, Angela Lansbury, Bebe Neuwirth, Rita Moreno, Marlee Matlin and - need we say it? - current Presidential candidate Fred Thompson. There's also a guest star credit for Tami Mansfield as a nanny in the episode "Identity"; we're not sure, but we wonder if Tami might be any relation to SVU star Mariska Hargitay via Mariska's mother, Jayne Mansfield. But if there is any family connection, we can't find it mentioned through any online searches we tried. Ah, well.
Video on this release will be wide screen, audio is English Dolby Digital 5.1, and subtitles are English and Spanish. Stay tuned for box art, and word about extras (IF any are included).
