Between 2002 and 2013, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released 14 individual season sets of Law & Order
on DVD. Except, as longtime readers, know, the entire twenty-season run of the show is ALREADY available on disc, via Universal's 2011 release of Law & Order - The Complete Series DVD gift set
Since then, it's just been a matter of the studio re-purposing the discs from that Complete
package into the individual season sets, and make them available in smaller (more wallet-conscious) bites to all the fans of the show. But there are still six more seasons to get out separately. What's a studio to do?
Today, in what's clearly a "let's get on with it!" move, Universal has announced that on November 4th
, they will put out half of the remaining unreleased individual seasons, with 5-disc cases each for Law & Order - The 15th Year, Law & Order - The 16th Year
, and Law & Order - The 17th Year
. They will cost $39.98 SRP each, and all include English subtitles for the hearing impaired. Here's a description of these sets, followed by a small look at the box cover for each title:
- Law & Order - The 15th Year
In the compelling fifteenth year of Dick Wolf's iconic series, the Manhattan criminal justice team tries not to let departmental shake-ups impact their abilities to pursue the riveting cases that have shocked the city. Detective Joe Fontana (Dennis Farina) and ADA Alexandra Borgia (Annie Parisse) bring their expertise to grim crimes regarding fake flu vaccines and con men, while ADA Serena Southerlyn (Elisabeth Röhm) exits after her strong opinions put her at odds with her colleagues in the death of a controversial rap producer. Cast members Jesse L. Martin, S. Epatha Merkerson, Sam Waterston and Fred Thompson also star in this unforgettable 24-episode season, also featuring a special series of guest appearances by Michael Imperioli as Detective Nick Falco.
- Law & Order - The 16th Year
Gripping life-or-death drama. Intelligent dialogue. Ripped-from-the-headlines scenarios. They're all here in 22 compelling episodes. Annie Parisse and Dennis Farina return for their final season as ADA Alexandra Borgia and Detective Joe Fontana, who take on cases involving a grim sterilization campaign, post-partum psychosis and a death so disturbing to Lieutenant Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) that she flirts with perjury in the name of justice. Impressive guest stars, including Michael Imperioli reprising his role as Detective Nick Falco, join cast members Jesse L. Martin, Sam Waterston and Fred Thompson. The legacy from esteemed producer Dick Wolf continues with this sixteenth season of television's longest-running crime series.
- Law & Order - The 17th Year
The storylines remain as compelling as ever, but this seventeenth season of Law & Order brings big changes to the men and women working in New York City's criminal justice system. Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) earns his promotion to Senior Detective, Nina Cassady (Milena Govich) joins the Department for her short tenure as a detective, DA Arthur Branch (Fred Thompson) finishes his time as the District Attorney and Jack McCoy (Sam Waterson) serves his final days in the courtroom before taking on his boss's position. Featuring all 22 gripping episodes, with cast members S. Epatha Merkerson and Alana de la Garza, and notable guest stars Chevy Chase (Community), Mariel Hemingway (Manhattan) and Mario van Peebles (Damages), it's a vital chapter in the Primetime Emmy Award-winning success story from iconic producer Dick Wolf.
