LateLine, the short-lived NBC show that was co-created, co-Executive Produced, and co-written by series star Al Franken back in 1998-99, is coming to DVD. John Markus was the other driving force for the show, sharing in the creating, Exec-Producing, and writing credits along with Franken.
We've gotten word that the show - which produced 19 episodes (and only 15 of them were aired) - is in production for a DVD release, perhaps to street later this year.
Plenty of guest stars join Saturday Night Live veteran Franken on this send-up of late-night news shows. Among them were fellow SNL alumni Dana Carvey, frequent guest G. Gordon Liddy, and other celebrities such as William F. Buckley, Allen Dershowitz, Michael Dukakis, Jerry Falwell, Kathie Lee Gifford, Buddy Hackett, Allison Janney, James Lovell, Joan Lunden, Leonard Maltin, Conan O'Brien, Regis Philbin, Rob Reiner, Andy Richter, Martin Sheen, Paul Simon, Bob Uecker, Vanessa Williams and current Presidential hopeful John Kerry.
We don't know yet if the unaired episodes (one of which had the guest appearance by Kerry) will be included in this release or not. In fact, we pretty much have no word at all, except that the show is coming to DVD. But we'll follow up with more info on this, just as soon as we can. So stay tuned!
