Our friends at the "DVDs in the works" blog for the BBC America Online Shop have graced us with another tip about an upcoming title. In
a recent entry they inform readers how they've had lots of demand from fans for
Lark Rise to Candleford. The 2008 series from the U.K. began airing on several PBS stations in the USA recently, and it's based on a series of autobiographical books by British writer/poet Flora Thompson (stories which have previously been adapted into plays). The BBC had been planning on a 2010 release of the show on DVD, but now - with interest running so high! - they've decided to move it up to 2009, and plan to have it out "in time for Christmas."
The title of the program may sound strange at first, but it makes sense when you know it's the story of a woman in the 1800's who moves away from the small town of Lark Rise, where she was born and raised, and goes to work in the bigger, busier city of Candleford, where she finds a job at the post office. This period piece stars Olivia Hallinan (
Torchwood, Sugar Rush, Girls in Love), Julia Sawalha (
Pride and Prejudice, Absolutely Fabulous, Cranford), Dawn French (
The Vicar of Dibley, French & Saunders, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Ben Miles (
The Forsyte Saga, Coupling, V for Vendetta). Stay tuned for updates about the DVD, when this title gets formally announced!
