A couple of days ago we
posted a report that tried to explain about a delay of
Laramie - Season 3 on DVD. Timeless Media Group had pushed the release back to the end of March, apparently...but then shortly after posting the story, we got word from a large number of people who said they had seen the item up for sale at Sam's Club stores; that it was there since the original street date of Feb. 10th (last week). We updated our story to include that info, but since then even more has come to light...and it's highly significant!
Apparently one of the early customers was Doug Abott, who runs the
TV Western Photos website. Doug had posted information at the bottom of his site's home page, discussing a defect on the
Laramie release. Here's a portion of the statement he put up from TMG president Norm Andersen (please head over there for the full post, with additional detail):
...During the mastering and replicating process further "glitches" developed in the transfer....we are trying again to remaster these programs using more sophisticated computer editing equipment....we are "recleaning" all the programs and have located another source with some better copies on tape.....we plan to replace all the Laramie's sold to this point if the customer wishes.....we will replace these n/c by the end of March
Our thanks to reader Ed Sullens for tipping us off about Doug's post. We went back to Timeless and requested that they confirm the matter, the (re-)release date, and give us an official statement about the replacement situation. Here is what they sent us:
During the replication, process there was a problem with some of the Laramie Season 3 discs. TMG apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and is working to correct the problem with replacement discs available by the end of March for any consumer not satisfied with their purchase. TMG's goal is to bring Classic television western series to their long time fans, using the best available sources. If somebody is dissatisfied with the Laramie set they have purchased, we are replacing discs only. They should call our office at 1-800-547-6014 and give us the information.
Our thanks to Timeless Media Group for the swift answer, and to every one of our readers who e-mailed to try to help us with this release. So Monday,
March 30th will be the official new date for this release, with the corrected set of discs.
