One of the most critically acclaimed television series of the 1980s, L.A. Law comes to DVD from Shout! Factory. Co-created by Stephen Bochco (Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue), the Emmy Award-winning series takes us inside the law firm of McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak. There, a team of ambitious and competitive attorneys must face the conflicts between their personal desires, their obligations as lawyers, and their principles as human beings.
A portrayal of the law and its litigators that was both realistic and irreverent, L.A. Law became a favorite of critics and audiences alike during its eight-year run on NBC from 1986 to 1994. With an outstanding ensemble cast (featuring Harry Hamlin, Susan Dey, Jimmy Smits, and Corbin Bernsen), all 23 original episodes and stellar bonus features, you'll judge L.A. Law to be as entertaining as ever.
Available on disc overseas for a couple of years now, one of the most acclaimed legal dramas of primetime TV is finally coming to DVD in the USA and Canada this February 25th
when Shout! Factory releases the long-awaited L.A. Law - Season 1
. The 6-disc set is said to have "23 episodes" in the studio description we've quoted above, but most episode guides only list 22 episodes. The difference is that the pilot is double length in the original broadcast, and shown as "Part 1 & Part 2" in syndication. That pilot (whether counted as "1" or "2" episodes), plus all 21 hour-long regualr weekly episodes, are what make up those counts. Regardless, those episodes come with cast members Harry Hamlin, Susan Dey (she's not seen in the pilot, though), Corbin Bernsen, Jill Eikenberry, Alan Rachins, Michele Greene, Jimmy Smits, Michael Tucker, Susan Ruttan, and Richard Dysart.
The ensemble cast members are joined by guests which include Alfre Woodard, Joe Pantoliano, Shannon Wilcox, Mario Van Peebles, Jerry Hardin, Megan Gallagher, CCH Pounder, Judy Landers, David Wohl, Adam Arkin, Dean Devlin, Christian Clemenson, Harold Gould, Joanna Frank, Priscilla Pointer, Bibi Besch, Denise Crosby, Stanley Kamel, Sela Ward, Bruce Kirby, Robert Costanzo, Dan Lauria, Patricia Wettig, Paul Bartel, Robert Picardo and more! Our thanks to reader James Jones for his e-mail about this item. Extras will be included, but haven't been announced yet while they are still being finalized. Cost is just $29.93 SRP, and even though Amazon hasn't begun taking pre-orders at the time of this writing, Shout! is taking advance purchases at a discount via their own online store.
Note that we are still waiting for the official news release and announcement from the studio; all info and artwork comes from the linked listing at the studio's online store. Here's a button link and a peek at the package cover:
