This past March 20th, in the USA and in Canada, BKN and distributor Genius Products released DVDs for
Volume 1 and
Volume 2 of
Kong: The Animated Series. For those of you less familiar with this series that first aired in the year 2000, it should not be confused with the 1966
King Kong animated series, which is owned by Classic Media and therefore also distributed by Genius Products. The third DVD volume of the 1966 show was on, and then
off the schedule a while back. That hasn't changed.
However, it looks like
Kong: The Animated Series - Volume 3 is coming to DVD soon...in Canada. We've located a
an online press release from BKN, showing release schedules for DVDs in the UK, the USA and in Canada. The info on the USA portion of this list matches exactly with release dates we've posted previously for other BKN titles such as
Zorro: Generation Z - Return to the Future and
Highlander: The Animated Series - The Complete Season 1. Dates for those products were obtained elsewhere, but are confirmed here.
Looking at the Canadian schedule on this press release, we see that the first
Kong: TAS volume was to be re-distributed and re-promoted in Canada this past August 28th, and it looks like that did indeed happen on or near that date. Glancing farther down, we see a similar re-distribute/re-promote of the second volume, planned to begin on October 30th. But the NEW release is seen at the bottom of that Canadian schedule:
- December 26 Kong, The Animated Series Volume 3 with a suggested retail price of $16.98.
Nice. That day is a Wednesday, which isn't the usual day of the week for DVD launches, but the Tuesday that week is Christmas Day, so stores will obviously be closed. We are not sure yet why this release is only planned for Canada, and not for the USA. We'll look into that, but it's not a problem to get that release to work on DVD players in the USA, since it's all "Region 1" anyway. Stay tuned and we'll bring you cover art and any further details we can get about this disc.
