Jason and his friend Eric are living in New York City when the great adventurer and philanthropist Hunter Stag announces plans to fill his new enormous zoo with fantastical creatures. Jason and Eric helicopter to Kong Island to protect Kong and the other inhabitants, confident that with the island's high-tech radar devices, no one could follow them...but they're wrong.
BKN's
Kong: The Animated Series had a post-cancellation "feature film" made for release direct-to-video (DTV), titled
Kong: Return to the Jungle. This 79-minute CGI production was originally released around 3 years ago through distributor Genius Entertainment, but that item is out of print. When BKN signed a new distribution deal with Image Entertainment, the first release was
yesterday's 5-disc Animated Series Gift Set, which includes
Return to the Jungle.
Image Entertainment has now announced that they will also be releasing
Kong: The Animated Series - Return to the Jungle separately, on
October 13th. It will be available in both standard DVD ($9.97 SRP) and high-def Blu-ray Disc ($19.98 SRP). While the DVD release is listed as being in full frame format, the new Blu-ray format version will be in widescreen. Audio for both is marked as English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo. An
online trailer is available from BKN (in Quicktime format), and we have a look at the package art for both formats below:
