Now HERE is an old DVD that we somehow skipped listing here at TVShowsOnDVD (a situation which I just corrected): Anchor Bay's now-out-of-print release of
The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler. This item was released in 1998, and was later discountinued after the rights that Anchor Bay licensed had expired.
Ever since then,
Kolchak fans have been dying for the season to be released in season sets. Or even, for those who missed the original release, just to be able to once again have the opportunity to own the two pilot telefilms "The Night Stalker" and "The Night Strangler."
While folks wanting season sets will have to continue waiting for their wish to come true, it looks like this summer MGM will make folks wanting the pilots happy at least. According to TheDigitalBits.com, anyway.
The Bits' Rumor Mill section reports today on upcoming MGM releases planned for June, July, and August. Among the August releases mentioned is an MGM re-release of
The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler. For those of you searching for it in that rather large paragraph, it's right after
Swamp Thing is mentioned.
Whatever source of info that The Digital Bits website has, it's apparently better than ours, because so far we've been unable to confirm this story. Could it be an April Fools' Day joke? Anything's possible, but then again a lot of the other items listed in that post ARE confirmable. So maybe it's okay to get our hopes up! Stay tuned, because we'll be keeping an eye on this.
And if this DOES come out this summer, then perhaps those hoped-for season sets might not be far behind?...
