The King of Kensington stars Canadian icon Al Waxman as Larry King, a variety store owner in the multicultural neighborhood of Kensington Market. King is a trouble-shooter and helper to people in the community; his wife Cathy (Fiona Reid) and mother Gladys (Helene Winston) tolerate his crusading, even though he seems more willing to help everybody else except them.
Morningstar Entertainment is bringing out
King of Kensington - Season 1 as a 2-DVD set featuring all 17 episodes from the Canadian sitcom's rookie season. Mike Myers made his acting debut at the age of 12 with a guest appearance on this show, and the promo material from the studio informs us that "years later, he would name the heroine of
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 'Vanessa Kensington' in honor of the show which gave him his start." Other guest stars include John Candy, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty, Luba Goy, Maury Chakin, Dinah Christie, Robin Duke and Eddie Shack.
This 2-DVD set, running 480 minutes, arrives in Canadian stores on
November 13th. Cost is CA$34.98 SRP, but you can
pre-order it from Amazon.ca for a current price of just CA$24.49! (Thanks to reader Thomas Brown for the info regarding that listing.) In addition to the first season episodes, you'll also get the following extras:
