Well, here we go folks...Kids in the Hall Season 1 is now up for preorder directly from the company that brought us the TV show, Broadway Video Enterprises.
The set will be released exclusively through Broadway Video, hopefully shipping on December 5th (just in time for Christmas!). In April-June, the set will go to retail, but from now until then you'll have to order the set online. This 4 disc set carries a price tag of $59.99 US. Don't worry, the set is loaded with bonus materials including early footage from their Rivoli performances (30 mins); 45 mins of interviews with the Kids and Lorne Michaels; commentary on the 2 "best of" episodes from the first season and magnetic poetry available ONLY with the online purchase. Arrange words to make funny KiTH phrases, or keep the magnets together for a priceless collectible.
I'm sure many of you already know this, but I wanted Kids in the Hall so badly, it inspired me to start this site. After the site got up and running, I contacted Broadway Video and told them I would help them get the show out on DVD. That was in Feb. 2002. Nearly 2 years later, here we are. Jason Rosenfeld and I served as Production/Marketing consultants on the set (you should see us in the credits). Working on the set allowed me a behind-the-scenes look at all the work that goes into releasing something like this.
The folks at Broadway Video Enterprises deserve top marks for listening and implementing many of the ideas fans had submitted through the survey we hosted on the official website. I get a lot of complaint e-mails from running this site: fans upset because they are hearing impaired and can't enjoy a DVD because it isn't subtitled or closed captioned, or fans in Europe wondering when region 2 will get the DVD set. Broadway Video listened to these complaints and released the set with closed captioning AND made it region 0, which means it's playable in any DVD player worldwide. I'm 100% biased, but I think fans of the series will be impressed with the set, and I think they'll get a kick out of the magnetic poetry that ships with it.
