We
reported early last December that a bonus episode of
Kate & Allie would appear on the Feb. 14th release of the
Gimme a Break! - Season 1 DVD set from Universal (reportedly "The Very Loud Family" from the first season). We were joined by fans who proclaimed "give US a break" and asked Universal to bring us more than a single episode of this great sitcom from the '80s. Apparently the powers that be already had this in mind, though, because this morning Universal has announced
Kate & Allie - Season 1!
Scheduled for release on
May 2nd, this stars Susan Saint James (
McMillan & Wife) as "Kate" and Jane Curtin (
Saturday Night Live) as "Allie". The two had starred together a few years prior - along with Jessica Lange - in the funny film
How To Beat The High Co$t Of Living. In 1984 James and Curtin teamed up on CBS for
Kate & Allie, which had a very short 1st season (only 6 episodes!) but would last for six seasons and 122 episodes overall. Recently Jane Curtin has re-appeared on a new ABC show,
Crumbs, which she co-stars in with Fred Savage of
The Wonder Years. With this new network sitcom hitting the airwaves, there's certainly no time like the present to bring out
Kate & Allie on DVD!
Look for all 6 first season episodes to be placed on a single DVD (single-sided, dual- layered) with a $29.98 SRP. Video is 1.33:1 full frame, and audio is English Mono with English subtitles. Look for guest shots from Kelsey Grammer (
Cheers, Frasier), Jonathan Brandis (
SeaQuest DSV) and John Heard (recurring roles in
The Sopranos, C.S.I.: Miami, Jack & Bobby and
