Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Well, in the USA...Canadians celebrate this holiday in October, of course. Since Canadians aren't taking the day off, I decided that today is a good day to catch up on some news about releases "north of the border". Of course, Canadian DVDs are all "Region 1", so will work fine in a USA-sold player if you can get your hands on a copy. We came up with so much news just from VEI of Toronto, that we'll have more tomorrow, too!
Two questions, which keep getting asked over and over again by fans, concerns whether or not VEI plans to continue their Canadian releases of popular 80's sitcoms Kate & Allie and Gimme A Break!. VEI released the 4th season set of K&A (starring Jane Curtin and Susan Saint James) this past July, but we haven't seen any of Nell Carter's GAB since the October 2006 of the second season (out of six).
Unfortunately, Nell Carter fans won't get a Break just yet. VEI tells us they have no plans right now, and simply have not made a decision on whether or not they will be releasing the further seasons of Gimme A Break. It's not out of the question, but it's not yet on the table, either.
But the good news is that they are indeed planning on more Kate & Allie season sets! There are just two more seasons left for them to put out, and they are planning on releasing Kate & Allie - Season 5 "sometime later in 2008".
USA releases of both shows don't appear to be forthcoming, as far as we can tell. Universal Home Video has left both Kate & Allie and Gimme A Break with only first-season releases from back in early 2006, and hasn't said a word since about continuing either one. It looks like fans should look north, at least for now.
