Yesterday we
reported that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment would be releasing
The Karate Kid - The Animated Series: Volume 1 and
The Karate Kid - The Animated Series: Volume 2 on DVD this coming May 4th. The information that we, and other DVD websites, posted about a home video release of the NBC Saturday-morning cartoon, spun off from the first three movies in the franchise, was obtained from Sony's password-protected press site. However, we have just found out that there was a fundamental misunderstanding about these releases.
In following up on these titles with the studio, trying to obtain package art for the DVD releases, we were informed by our contact at Sony that "
these will only be released digitally (iTunes, Amazon, etc.). We will not be releasing them on DVD." No reason was immediately given for the studio's decision to not make these available on disc. However, we did communicate to the studio that our story yesterday was VERY well-received by our readers, and hinted that a DVD of the show may turn out to be a good move. If that goes anywhere, and we end up having news to bring you about an on-disc release of the program, then we'll certainly let you know.
In the meantime we wish we could just hit the "undo" button and make yesterday's story go away, so we wouldn't have gotten everybody's hopes up. TVShowsOnDVD certainly regrets any confusion that resulted from our report. Our thanks to Sony for their fast response to help clear up the situation.
