Yesterday we
posted the announcement for
Justice League - Season 2 on DVD, and we reluctantly passed on the info from the announcement's fact sheet that this was listed as a full frame release. This was very confusing, because the studio
had promised it would be widescreen after
fan outcry demanding it in this video format.
Relax, though, because we have good news for you this morning! TVShowsOnDVD site owner Gord Lacey contacted the folks at Warner yesterday, and was told that the video aspect ratio listed in the release info was an error, and that the DVD is indeed going to be in widescreen, just as promised.
To seal the deal, we also got word last night from Jim Harvey, the webmaster at
WorldsFinestOnline.com, that he was told as well that this is in widescreen. To quote Jim, "
As far as I know, and am concerned as (Producer Bruce)
Timm still says this, the season is in widescreen. It's a badly, badly timed error if anything." Jim, that comment about bad timing sums it up perfectly!
Now we have some info that Jim will be glad to know: in the middle of all of this, we received some info from our friends in the industry about the future of
Justice League on DVD. As you probably know, after two seasons of
JL the show changed its name and story format to
Justice League Unlimited, expanding the superhero team to have room for a rotating list of heroic characters (and evil villains) from the DC Comics universe. 2 single-disc volumes of
JLU are already out on DVD. Warner plans to do a couple more of these, and then make the switch to season sets. Look for
Unlimited - Season 1, Volume 3: New Heroes and then
Unlimited - Season 1, Volume 4: Once And Future. After those are released, you'll be able to look forward to
Justice League Unlimited - The Complete 1st Season.
What is the timeframe for these releases? We don't know, and we're not even sure the studio knows in specific. Our industry source was not able to provide any release dates, which indicates to us that the studio has probably not made any decisions on that yet. In fact, the info we got is very tentative, and still subject to change. File those 3 titles firmly in the "rumor and gossip" column for now, and stay tuned for any updates we get as time goes on. For now, we'll be very happy to get the
Justice League - Season 2...IN WIDESCREEN!
