We posted the news that Justice League would be coming out in a season release the other day, and one thing has become very clear; the fans want it to be released in widescreen!
Almost moments after we posted the news we started receiving the first of many emails asking whether that aspect ratio was confirmed, or a guess on our part. At this time the confirmed aspect ratio is 1.33:1. Fans let us know that the creators of the show fought hard to get the episodes broadcast in widescreen on Saturday nights during a repeat airing. The widescreen version of the show was created by matting the 1.33:1 image (essentially covering up the top and bottom of the picture to create widescreen). Bruce Timm has said he prefers the widescreen version, however the full frame version contains more picture. That all changed for season 2 though; the show was animated in widescreen, and the full frame versions lost material on the sides of the picture. Timm has said that Warner Bros has plans to release the second season in full frame, and that's upset many fans.
