For Judge John Deed, following the letter of the law can be tricky when the courtroom is clouded with conspiracy, heartbreak and scandal. A passion for doing right often leaves Deed at odds with his colleagues, family and lovers. Is all fair in the pursuit of justice? Controversial cases, pressure from high places, family problems and a broken heart, the eponymous judge has them all in the fifth season.
In the courtroom, Deed presides over a murder that threatens to unmask the corruption of the prison service while the case of an animal rights activist accused of murdering a scientist brings him into direct conflict with his equally strong-willed daughter. Away from the walls of justice, Deed's relationship with Jo Mills deteriorates when her former lover returns out of the blue. What will it take for justice to be served - in and out of the courtroom?
BBC Video has announced that Martin Shaw is back in court on
March 6th with their North American DVD release of
Judge John Deed - Season 5: Episodes 1-4. This 2-disc set running 356 minutes will contain the first 4 episodes of the six which were produced for the fifth series: "Hard-Gating," "My Daughter, Right or Wrong," "Lost Youth" and "Silent Killer." No word about the other two episodes produced in 2006 ("One Angry Man" and "Heart of Darkness"), but we assume the BBC will make them available on DVD in the future....possibly as part of their release of the seventh and final season/series of the program (which is only two stories, although each of those is a two-parter). No, we can't claim we understand this release strategy, either. The cost of
Judge John Deed - Season 5: Episodes 1-4 is $29.98 SRP, and here's a look at the packaging:
