Back in May 2004, we passed along info from
USA Today that suggested an intended DVD release of
Josie and the Pussycats, but fans never saw that release. Keep in mind, though, that this show was never going to be the easiest of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons to bring out, because the original property is actually owned by Archie Comics, and licensing would have had to be worked out (besides the normal time-consuming activities of gathering materials and making sure they were of a releasable quality, etc.).
But now
Earl Kress has posted at his blog info that the DVD set may finally be in the works! He doesn't have a release date yet, and cautions (albeit not in so many words) that this still might not get released at all. However, he knows that a bonus featurette is in the works to potentially be used on such a set. That extra is a tribute to the
Josie Creator and Artist, Dan DeCarlo. Some of the names talked about for being included on interviews for this featurette, which hasn't been shot yet, include Casey Kasem, Mark Evanier and Paul Dini. Please head over to Earl's website to read the full list of names, and the context in which he mentions them.
One other interesting thing he says at his blog, which I'll repeat here in case anyone at Warner notices it and decides to contact Earl:
As far as the DVD goes, I found something fascinating in the Warner’s film archives that should definitely be included on this set. If anyone from Home Video is reading this, you really should contact me. (I know how tacky this sounds, but sometimes you have to use hammers to get people’s attention.)
Fascinating. We'll see what we can do to help Earl get word about this to Warner. In the meantime, the rest of our readers should stay tuned, and we'll let you know about any further developments. Our thanks to one of our readers, "Shawn," for letting us know about Earl's blog entry!
