This past summer it was
announced that Gaiam Americas (distributor of the
Living With Ed TV-DVDs) had signed a deal to take over retail distribution of DVD and Blu-ray titles from Discovery Communications. Discovery's cable networks include The Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, The Military Channel and others; home video releases from shows in their library had up until now been distributed via either Genius Products (which has since
left the distribution industry) and Image Entertainment. Now everything is consolidated into one place, and it seems that the first titles from the Gaiam/Discovery pact are being prepared for release!
Among them is the latest (and possibly the last?) season of the well-known TLC reality series:
Jon & Kate Plus Ei8ht, the series starring the Gosselin Family. The show has followed the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin, and their family consisting of a pair of twins and a group of sextuplets! As you've undoubtedly heard in the media, this year saw "big changes" as problems developed in the marriage, and the show was recently renamed to simply "
Kate Plus Ei8ht," just prior to TLC suspending the taping of the show. Right now it is unknown if further episodes will be produced, but the existing installments are coming to DVD! While Gaiam hasn't formally announced the title just yet, a
new Amazon listing shows that
Jon & Kate Plus Ei8ht - Season 5: Big Changes will be released on
January 12th. The listing is taking pre-orders at this time, and shows 460 minutes' running time for a $19.98 SRP (but you can lock in your copy at a discount). At this time, though, there is no further info found at Amazon's listing about the title.
