Warner Home Entertainment is preparing to announce
Joey - The Complete 1st Season on DVD. Fans of the show have been puzzled as to why this didn't make it out in time to help promote the 2nd season of the show when it returned last September. The answer is simple: Warner hadn't gotten the
final season of Friends out yet (it shipped in November), and they wanted to get these released in order (since
Joey starts after
Friends finishes, of course).
Unfortunately, the beginning of
Joey on DVD comes as the show seems to be nearing its end on television. Andrea Anders, who plays next-door-neighbor "Alex" on the show (who Joey's been pining for), has been mentioned as joining the cast of a new show on CBS next season called
The Class, which has Jason Ritter (
Joan of Arcadia) in it as well. So it sounds like
Joey is all but officially canceled, and NBC will simply burn off the remaining six unaired episodes starting in March.
But those of us who enjoy
Joey (myself included) will be able to enjoy
The Complete 1st Season from
May 30th. The 4-DVD set will contain all 24 first-season episodes for $39.95 SRP. It doesn't look like there will be any extras, but we'll let you know if we find out differently. Here's an early look at the cover art; stay tuned and we'll update you if that changes or if we find out anything further about this release:
