A couple of months ago we
reported about CBS/Paramount's DVD release for
Matlock - The 1st Season, and we mentioned the roster of guest stars that joined Andy Griffith in his new show's freshman year. Among them were William Conrad and Joe Penny, a year prior to their 1987 teaming on CBS as
Jake and the Fatman. While they played different characters, Conrad's character served as the basis of Jason "Fatman" McCabe, the rotund DA who teamed with Penny's Jake Styles to get to the bottom of crime in Los Angeles, then Hawaii, then back in L.A. again.
The first season (of five total) ran 22 episodes, including a double-length second episode called "Fatal Attraction". The first half of these will come to DVD on
July 8th with
Jake and the Fatman - Season 1, Volume 1. You'll get 9.5 hours of episodes presented in the original full screen video, including guest stars like Jane Badler (
V), Robert Reed (
The Brady Bunch), Bruce Greenwood (
Nowhere Man), James Avery (
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Robert Culp (
I Spy), Tim Russ (
Star Trek: Voyager), Dwight Schultz (
Star Trek: TNG, The A-Team), Terri Treas (
Alien Nation), Joe Regalbuto (
Murphy Brown) and more!
Stay tuned for pricing, cover art and other details just as soon as CBS/Paramount makes the information available.
