Back in early February we
showed off the front cover art for MPI Home Video's upcoming
May 4th DVD releases of
The Honeymooners: Second Honeymoon and
The Honeymooners Valentine Special. At the same time we passed along word from the studio that extras on these titles would both include "
Bonus 1960s 'Color Honeymooners
' sketches not seen since their original airings." Today MPI sent over some additional images of the packaging for both of these DVDs, which included a look at the spines and rear sides of each box. The back side of the package for these titles each gave us an exact description of the extras on each one, and we wanted to share them with you:
- The Honeymooners: Second Honeymoon -- Rare Honeymooners parody skit from 1967 - Starring AUDREY MEADOWS and RAY BOLGER!
- The Honeymooners Valentine Special -- Rare Honeymooners parody skit from 1971 - Starring SHEILA MACRAE, GEORGE KIRBY and RICH LITTLE!
Nice to know. The latter turns out to be from the early '70s instead of the '60s, but we'll let MPI slide on that...and we're sure all of you will, too! Also, be aware that these are parodies, and they are not part of the 7 non-musical skits extracted from the 1966-70 version of
The Jackie Gleason Show (MPI could not include those, due to what was described as "business reasons"). Our thanks to our contact at the studio for sending these our way. Here's a look at the new pics of the packaging. The box rear also mentions a "Christmas Specials" release that MPI has available for
The Honeymooners...we're not sure yet if this is something new coming down the pike (and yet to be announced), or if they are instead making a veiled reference to their 2002 DVD release of
The Honeymooners - Holiday Classics. Our guess, though, is that this will turn out to be an upcoming release of 1977's "
The Honeymooners Christmas Special," which was aired the year after
Second Honeymoon and the year prior to the
Valentine's Special. It makes sense, after all. However, MPI did not immediately respond to our inquiry asking about it. Stay tuned, though, and we'll let you know if we find out that any further titles are on the way!
UPDATE: Our contact at MPI has now confirmed that
The Honeymooners Christmas Special will be released on DVD before the end of the year, just in time for the holidays. Stay tuned for details, once available!
