We've already reported extensively about
BCI's deal to acquire new Filmation properties such as
She-Ra and
Bravestarr, "as well as several live action series" (that's a quote from BCI's press release). The company that BCI purchased those licenses from, U.K.'s Entertainment Rights, has
issued a brief press release of their own.
In it, they specify that one of the Filmation properties which has gone to BCI is
The Secret of Isis.
Isis and the live-action version of
Shazam! (not to be confused with Filmation's 1981 animated effort) were shown in tandem on Saturday mornings starting with the
Shazam! second season. The
Shazam! main character of Billy Batson/Captain Marvel is currently owned by DC Comics, a division of Warner, and that series' DVD rights are in the hands of Warner Home Video (a
Shazam! episode
was included on a bonus DVD included with first-run copies of the
Wonder Woman - Season 3 DVD set).
But
Isis was pretty much an original creation of Filmation's, and so Warner has no claim on that show. Except that Isis (and her secret identity character, Andrea) appeared on
Shazam! at times, and Billy Batson/Captain Marvel showed up from time to time on
Isis. Online episode guides show that each series had 3 episodes which crossed over with the other. We know from fan feedback that a lot of you are interested in how the crossover episodes get handled on DVD, and we're passing on that feedback to the powers that be. No plans have been drawn up just yet, as BCI has just acquired the property and are still arranging things. Stay tuned and we'll keep you informed of developments! Our thanks to the various readers, including "Jon" of He-Man.org, for making sure we knew about E.R.'s press release.
