Based on the Japanese cult classic, Iron Chef America pits some of this country's favorite chefs (Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, and Mario Batali) against the inspired food wizardry of Iron Chefs Masaharu Morimoto and Hiroyuki Sakai, with a surprise final battle no Iron Chef fan will forget! As in the Japanese format, a secret ingredient is revealed and an all-star panel scores each dish for taste, presentation, and originality.
Judges include Ted Allen (
Queer Eye For The Straight Guy), Paige Davis (
Trading Spaces), Vincent Pastore (
The Sopranos), Melinda Clarke (
The O.C.), and James Michael Tyler (Gunther from
Friends). The commentator this time around is Alton Brown (writer/director for
Good Eats).
The Food Network first aired this 4-battle mini-series in April, and is already planning to bring it out on DVD in an exclusive
Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters - Collector's Edition 3-disc set. This release will have all 4 battles, plus exclusive-to-DVD bonus footage.
The Food Network is taking pre-orders for this
at their website, at a cost of $44.95. This will ship out to purchasers in Mid-June.
Our thanks to Jeff Kapalka for the heads-up on this one!
