Remember waaaay back in January, when we posted
this Invader Zim news? The one that included this pic of the special Bonus Box & Disc they've been planning for release after the 3rd Volume hit stores?
Now, thanks to reader Eric Blackstock (he's always quick to send us
Zim news!), Amazon.com has that item
up for pre-order. We think this is it, anyway. Amazon says "6 pc" in the title, but according to
this post at RoomWithAMoose.com, Amazon made a mistake with that "6 pc" label and it is indeed what we were expecting: just the carboard box (shaped like Zim's house/base) to enclose your already-purchased DVDs in (so you're not re-buying the 3 two-disc volumes you probably already have) and the bonus disc full of "Pencil tests, designs, script and audio of unproduced episodes and more," plus a toy that you can't get anywhere else. Here's the word from from that post:
Media Blasters is apparently working on fixing this (Amazon) problem already. And the fourth extras disc will not contain any episodes, nor will it be packed with the previous discs. It will be just that; an extras disc, along with an awesome cardboard model of Zim's base encasing it.
And an exclusive GIR figure packed inside. Just so's you know...

Don't have any of the
Zim releases yet? Then just wait...on the same day - 1/11/05 - you can purchase a complete set of all three volumes plus the extras disc in the house with the GIR toy. That's 7 DVDs (one of them a supplements disc), plus an alien base disguised as a house, plus a figure of an amazingly stupid robot all for a list price of $129.95, we're told.
Not enough for you? Okay, how about this? A couple of weeks after that, on 1/25/05, Media-Blasters will join the growing ranks of anime shops selling their toons on the 3-inch mini-disc DVDs. There will be 2 of these items released on that date, each containing 25 minutes of
Invader Zim for a $6.99 list price. No mention yet of which stores these are aimed at, but online retailers will probably carry them. We'll let you know when those, and the full box set, are up for pre-order at our own e-tail partners.
Finally, there's a bit of a disappointment to mention today. For those of you who haven't yet watched the episode "The Most Horrible Christmas Ever" on
Volume 3: Horrible Holiday Cheer, you'll be upset to know that the episode isn't uncut after all. The back of the box says "
Featuring the uncut release of THE MOST HORRIBLE CHRISTMAS EVER... ," but we've gotten lots of e-mails from fans who know better, and say that this just simply isn't the case. We've trying to find out from Media-Blasters what the situation is about this: if it's true (I don't have anything different to compare it to, but I just can't imagine so many of our readers could be mistaken about this), and what - if anything - will be done about it.
But I'm not letting it stop me from enjoying this release. Oh, no...it's way to much fun for the rest of it. And I don't recommend any of you hold back, either. Stay tuned, and we'll try to get some official comments from the folks who put this release out, and see what's going on. And get more info about those January releases while we're at it. Don't touch that dial!
