As we've just
reported separately, this May 6th the folks at Morningstar Entertainment will release a DVD in Canada titled
Spider-Man - The Mutant Agenda, containing three episodes from the 1994 animated
Spider-Man series and two bonus episodes from the 1994 animated
Iron Man series. This release is meant to tie in with the new
Iron Man film, starring Robert Downey Jr., that hits theaters on May 2nd.
Of course,
The Incredible Hulk is also getting a new feature film this summer, starring Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, William Hurt and Tim Roth. In fact, Robert Downey Jr. even shows up in the new film as "Tony Stark" (the secret identity of Iron Man, in case you didn't know). That film hits on June 13th, and there are already plans for DVD tie-ins to the film by way of
the 3rd and 4th season sets from the classic Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno live-action series. But why should that be the only series to tie in?
Morningstar, thinking along those lines, has announced the
June 10th release in Canada for a DVD from the 1982 animated series, also called
The Incredible Hulk. This release from Morningstar is apparently going to be a DVD version of the
old VHS release of Prism Video's "Marvel Comics Video Library, Vol. 5". The DVD title is
The Incredible Hulk - When Monsters Meet; here's the studio description:
Arriving in Paris for a scientific conference, Bruce is given a possible cure for his condition, but his chances of using it are threatened by the appearance of a descendant of Quasimodo who wreaks havoc in the city with his giant mutant bat.
Besides the title episode from an October, 1982 airing of the NBC Saturday-morning cartoon, the DVD box art mentions "2 episodes of
Spider-Man" are included as a Special Bonus. If this is indeed a DVD version of the old VHS, then those two
Spider-cartoons will be "One-Eyed Idol" and "Fifth Avenue Phantom", both originally seen on a November 1967 broadcast of the classic
Spider-Man series (with the memorable theme song that we all still sing today).
As you can see from the box art below, this DVD is shown to be a "Limited Edition". It is will only be on retail shelves in Canada, but will work on any DVD player sold in North America (including the United States) if you import it. List price is CA$14.98, but right now you can pre-order it for CA$10.49 by using the Amazon.ca link:
