The Incredible Hulk - Plans Revealed for DVDs with Last 3 Seasons of Bixby/Ferrigno Series

Exec Producer Kenneth Johnson Spills The Beans (Give Or Take)

Posted by David Lambert
This past weekend we started receiving e-mails from several readers (thanks to each of you, especially Frank Farmer for being the first and working with us the most) about an update posted by Kenneth Johnson at his official website. Kenny, as you probably recall, was the Exec Producer on The Incredible Hulk starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Kenny had this incredible info to share with the fans:
Good news! -- The Season Three, Four & Five box sets will likely be released in June. Check back for the exact date. It will include on-camera interviews with Kenny and producers Bob Steinhauer, Karen Harris and Jill Sherman Donner.

On Friday, January 18, 2008, Kenny recorded a full length commentary for the epic Prometheus which opened the fourth season.
That statement was followed by a picture of Kenny recording his commentary track for "Prometheus," including a look at his original Hulk production crew vest (which he had along with him that day). Head on over to his site and check it out!

As terrific as that sounds, though, we were cautious because releasing Season 3 (23 episodes), Season 4 (18 eps) and Season 5 (7 eps) all on the same date in June 2008 certainly isn't the sort of release strategy we're used to seeing in this business. Universal Studios has done something similar before, though, by releasing two seasons of Miami Vice on the same day. Still, we wanted to double-check with Kenny and with the studio, and also with some of our retail contacts who might know.

We were unable to reach anyone on Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and we haven't heard back from Kenny or Universal, but we've been told by a strong retail contact of ours that they've heard differently than what Kenny's posted. We were told to expect both The Incredible Hulk - The Complete 3rd Season and The Incredible Hulk - The Complete 4th Season in June (presumably in time tie in with the June 13th debut of the new Incredible Hulk feature film starring Edward Norton), and then to finish off the show's run with The Incredible Hulk - The Complete 5th Season later in the year, possibly in October (perhaps to tie in with a home video release of the new film?). The exact dates of these releases were not finalized yet, and we expect that this entire plan is still tentative and subject to change. But that is where our industry contacts tell us this stands right now.

We haven't heard from the folks in Hollywood yet, but hopefully Universal has some official info for us soon. We also sent what we learned over to Kenny himself yesterday afternoon, asking for his thoughts and/or feedback, but we did not receive an immediate response from him. We certainly understand that he's busy with many projects right now, though, including the 2/5 launch of his new book, V: The Second Generation (continuing the original story based on the two mini-series he Exec Produced after Hulk, which in itself should hopefully become a 2009 mini-series!).

Stay tuned and don't Hulk out on us; we'll keep you updated with further developments about the big green guy on DVD, just as soon as we can!
