Back in February 2001, Image Entertainment released four separate
Howdy Doody DVDs, each a 1-disc affair containing 4 episodes from the classic mid-'50s children's show. Other DVDs have popped up over the years with episodes of the freckle-faced puppet and his creator/co-star, "Buffalo" Bob Smith, but now the folks at Mill Creek Entertainment are preparing a truly special DVD entry for this legendary program!

Video Business reports that Mill Creek will release
The Howdy-Doody Show as a 5-disc set on
November 4th. You'll get 40 episodes from the show's run (which lasted over a dozen years, producing over 1000 installments). In addition, you'll get interviews provided by the Archive of American Television, which is a part of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences ("the Emmy people," as one of my friends puts it).
This initial release will cost $29.98 SRP, and is the first in a series of planned releases.
Video Business reports that, thanks to Mill Creek's licensing deal with NBC/Universal, they will bring out three such packages in the beginning, with six more releases planned in the months to follow. Stay tuned for more details, and cover art, as soon as Mill Creek makes these available!
