November 16th sees the network debut of
House, a medical drama that will be produced by NBC-Universal but air on the Fox Network. The pilot episode is directed by none other than Bryan Singer (
X-Men and the upcoming new
Superman Returns film).
Fox has decided to distribute a sampler DVD of the
House pilot, and many readers will be able to find it in stores in the current (November
7-13, 2004) issue of
TV Guide. It will NOT be in every issue of the magazine, as I can personally attest, as I found issues at stores in my city that did not have the sampler disc (I've yet to find it at all, in fact).
The sampler has just the pilot episode (47:50 minutes), a preview of
The O.C., and a trailer for the Fox film
Flight of the Phoenix. There is also a poll at Fox's official
House website for recipients of the disc.
The same sampler disc is being distributed in some subscription issues of
Entertainment Weekly as well, but we have stopped discussing the samplers that come with
EW because they are not available to non-subscribers, and not even every subscriber is getting them with their magazines. So we're just going to stop covering the
EW TV-DVD samplers on these pages for now. But there IS a chance you can find the
House sampler in a
TV Guide in your town, so we decided to mention it this time. If you can't find it, though, please don't direct your e-mails at us...we can't do anything about it!
Our thanks to Ed Pogue for his e-mail and his scans of the disc, issue, and menu screen, and also to reader Matt Wilson for his e-mail as well.
