House - 4th Season DVDs Announced: Extras-Laden Box Set Arrives a Bit Earlier Than Expected!

Figuring it would come out in September? You'll get it a month earlier than that!

Universal Home Entertainment has just sent out the announcement: House - Season 4 is coming to DVD a bit earlier than fans might have expected! Many returning primetime network shows tend to get season set releases in September, and most of us predicted that House would fall into that timeframe. But Hugh Laurie's character has never been entirely predictable, and his home video release seems to go the same way: you can expect the 4-disc set to arrive on August 19th.

Then again, the first three seasons also arrived on DVD in late August (the 30th, the 22nd and the 21st, respectively). So the 4th Season is actually keeping in line with that annual "tradition."

The strike-shortened season, which just concluded with this past Monday's surprising finale, saw 16 episodes that really shook up the cast...and the routine at Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital. Omar Epps ("Foreman"), Lisa Edelstein ("Cuddy") and Robert Sean Leonard ("Wilson") continued to have major roles, while previous diagnostic team members "Cameron" (Jennifer Morrison) and "Chase" (Jesse Spencer) became more in the way of recurring characters (however, rarely an episode would pass without seeing them).

New characters on the show, vying for a spot on House's new team, included those played by such actors as Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar films, Superman Returns), Olivia Wilde (The O.C.), Carmen Argenziano (Stargate SG-1), Peter Jacobson (Transformers 2007 film), Andy Comeau (Huff) and Anne Dudek (who's been seen all over television in guest roles: ER, Friends, Desperate Housewives, Charmed, How I Met Your Mother and a recurring part in Mad Men). With all those folks running around, "regular" guest stars might be hard to spot...but you'll surely notice Kathleen York (singer), Tom Wilson (Back to the Future films) and Mira Sorvino (Oscar-winner for Mighty Aphrodite).

Episodes are presented in Anamorphic Widescreen, with English - Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio and subtitles in English and Spanish. Bonus material includes:
  • Episode Commentaries with the Cast and Crew
  • Gag Reel
  • "New Beginnings" Featurette
  • Meet the Writers
  • The Visual Effects House
  • Anatomy of a Crash
  • "My Favorite Season 4 Episode"
  • Season 5 Sneak Peek
Cost is $59.98 SRP. Package art isn't available yet, but stay tuned!
