We
had the scoop before Christmas that the classic 4-part award-winning (8 Emmy's!) mini-series
Holocaust would come to DVD on
May 27th, and this morning CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment have confirmed this with their formal announcement of the release!
Meryl Streep, Michael Moriarty, James Woods, Ian Holm, David Warner, T.P. McKenna, Sam Wanamaker, Fritz Weaver, Deborah Norton and Tovah Feldshuh star in this production directed by Marvin J. Chomsky, whose work was also seen on
Roots. Writer Gerald Green won an Emmy for his story, as did Streep and Moriarty. Here is Paramount's description of the production:
An original TV dramatization of one of the most monstrous crimes in world history - the slaughter of 6 million Jews by the Nazis. Dramatically and definitively, the story covers an entire decade, the eventful years from 1935 to 1945. HOLOCAUST focuses on the tragedy and triumph of a single family - the Weiss family. Their story is told in counter-poise to that of another fictional family, that of Erik Dorf, who portrays a Nazi aide to Germany's infamous Heydrich. Starring a brilliant international cast and filmed on location in Berlin and Vienna.
Running time for this DVD package is 7 hours and 44 minutes. Video is in the original Full Frame, and audio specs and pricing isn't available just yet. Neither is the package art or extras (if any), but stay tuned and we'll update you as soon as we can!
