We sometimes bend the rules a bit here at TVShowsOnDVD and talk about stuff we don't usually post news about, like a one-shot telefilm. It usually happens on the slower news days, and this one kinda qualifies!
But it's not just that, really. After this past March's "wide" retail release on DVD of the recent
Hogfather mini-series, a bit of interest sprung up among Terry Pratchett fans in DVD releases of two older telefilms, based on his novels. Both were 1997 animated productions made by the Cosgrove Hall Films, and starring the voice of Christopher Lee as "Death". They are
The Wyrd Sisters, which aired as a telefilm in the U.K., and
Soul Music, which came out there direct-to-video. Both were
released on DVD in 2001 in the USA by Acorn Media, but are currently out of print.
So now we're here to let interested
Hogfather fans know that Acorn is bringing them back, and not separately either. On
August 26th they will release the 2-disc set
Terry Pratchett's Discworld Collection, with both
Wyrd Sisters and
Soul Music included. Besides those features, running 322 minutes, there will also be some extras: storyboards, an interview with Terry Pratchett, a Pratchett bio, character bios, and more! All of this will go for $39.99 SRP.
So, while this isn't a release we'll list here on the site, we did want to let you know about it, so you can keep an eye on Amazon, DVDEmpire and/or your local stores and pick it up when it arrives. Here's the studio description, followed by the box art:
THE WORLD IS FLAT! (But ably supported by four elephants floating through space on the back of a giant turtle.) The Discworld, that is, as created by Terry Pratchett in his phenomenally popular sci-fi/fantasy books. Pratchett’s cast of wizards and witches, dwarfs, trolls, and giants hail from familiar myths and legends, but in the Discworld they’re a whole lot funnier. Two of Pratchett’s best tales come alive in these animated adaptations produced for British television.
A little bit Shakespeare, a little bit Hollywood, WYRD SISTERS recounts how three hard-working witches get mixed up in a royal mess when they’re handed a murdered king’s baby to protect.
An epic adventure with a soundtrack that really rocks, SOUL MUSIC follows the rise of a teenage musician from obscurity to Discworld super-celebrity as a rock star who’s made a deal with Death.
