A few weeks ago we
reported that Canada's Alliance Films Media had set a new release date for
The Hitchhiker - The Complete Collection on DVD. Even thought the listing at Amazon.ca (see button link below) shows an old date and says the title is "temporarily out of stock," the studio won't be shipping it until
October 11th. That hasn't changed since our last report, but what's new is that Alliance has now delivered the package art, which we have a look at for you below.
We owe thanks to longtime reader Alexander Ricci for the heads-up about this image, and in gratitude we want to answer a question he had about it. The title is officially "
The Hitchhiker - The Complete Collection" for this set, but a banner across the top of the box front says it's "the complete collection of terror tales from HBO." As fans of the show know, the State-side broadcasts of this program lasted for 6 seasons, with the first four airing on HBO, and the final two being broadcast on the USA Network. So Alex wanted to know if this boxfront banner meant that it's a less-than-"complete" set, with just the first four seasons in it after all.
We've officially inquired with Alliance about this, but no immediate response was provided. However, we're going to take a stab at this and speculate that this set is
probably for the complete six-season run of the show, on both networks. That guess is based on the fact that the package mentions a list of stars who appeared in the various episodes of
The Hitchhiker, including Joe Pantoliano. His one and only appearance was in the fifth season, which would have aired on the USA Network. Also, our previous report quoted a studio-provided description of the set, including other guest names who appeared in the 5th and 6th seasons (David James Elliott and Alan Thicke in particular). If we find out anything different, we'll certainly let you know! In the meantime, here's that artwork:
