Highway to Heaven - More Heaven-ly DVDs: Time/Life Best-Ofs; Season Sets in Stores in 4 Months

The other day we posted news that Highway To Heaven - Season 1 is coming to DVD in a 7-disc box set, with all 24 episodes, available only by direct order from A&E themselves, at a cost of $79.95 per item (this is the list price). That ships on December 2nd (pushed back a couple of days from the 11/30 date reported before), and now we've found out that the set will be exclusive to purchase only from them until it hits stores in March, 2005 (the exact date is still to be determined, and the timeframe is subject to change).

If that's too much to spend right now, and you can't wait, then there IS an alternative. Time/Life also has some offerings of Highway To Heaven: a group of 3 DVDs, sold together, that contain either 3 or 4 episodes per disc. That's only 10 episodes (well, 9 since the double-length pilot is broken into two parts for the Volume 1 DVD), but at a cost of just $29.99 for these three discs. Here's the breakdown of episodes per disc:
  • Volume 1
    • Highway to Heaven (Part 1)
    • Highway to Heaven (Part 2)
    • To Touch the Moon

  • Volume 2
    • A Divine Madness
    • Catch a Falling Star
    • Help Wanted: Angel
    • Dust Child

  • Volume 3
    • Hotel of Dreams
    • Another Song for Christmas
    • Plane Death

The individual disc cases (there seems to be no slipcase for them) sport covers that look almost exactly like the picture on the box set that we showed in our last news item. This is characterized by Time/Life as a "Buy V1 & V2, get V3 for Free" offer. I'd rather get the full-season box set myself (and, according to the voting here at TVShowsOnDVD, 96% of you feel the same). When it hits stores next March, it surely will be discounted to lower prices, presumably in the $55-$65 range. However, if you just want to settle for the best-of versions available now, you can get them from Time/Life by clicking here.

Apparently these were just put on sale this week. Our thanks to Scott Silverman for being the first to let us know. Stay tuned and we'll have more for you about Highway To Heaven on DVD just as soon as we can!
