Earlier this week we
alerted our readers to the fact that Davis-Panzer's Blu-ray Disc releases of
Highlander: The Series - Season 3, the new-and-improved
re-release of Highlander: The Series - Season 1, and the
Highlander: The Series - Seasons 1, 2 and 3 Blu-ray Box Set were all now available to ship. These titles aren't sold in stores, but available exclusively from the LegendaryHeroes.com online store, and we're told that all three titles are in stock right now. The question we've been getting since then is "what about those of us who have the previous BD version of
Season 1; didn't you report before that there would be some sort of upgrade path?" Yes
we did, and we've been pestering our contact at Davis-Panzer for that. The details arrived a short time ago for how the early adopters can get the new copy at a $15 discount, and we've got those details for you just below. This is a copy-and-paste of the studio info. We asked what EXACTLY is meant by the word "voucher"; does that mean customers have to wait for something to arrive in the mail, or e-mail, before getting their lower price? No, we're told; it's an instant discount when you order the new version. You can probably substitute the word "discount" for "voucher," if it helps:
- The voucher is ONLY for customers who purchased the original version of
Highlander Season 1 directly from the Legendary Heroes website or the call center. We have no way to keep track of anything outside of those methods of purchasing.
- If someone who owns the first version of Season 1 on Blu-ray wants the new version, then they will receive a $15 voucher towards the new version
- If someone who owns the first version of Season 1 on Blu-ray and wants the Three Pack of Seasons 1-3 on Blu-ray, then they will receive a $20 voucher towards the Three Pack.
- The customer must initiate by contacting customer service (they will have that info from their purchase).
- The customer does not have to return the first version.
So it's pretty straight-forward: if you want to take advantage of the upgrade path with the discount ($15 toward the re-release of
Highlander: The Series - Season 1 OR $20 toward the
Highlander: The Series - Seasons 1, 2 and 3 Blu-ray Box Set with the re-release of the first season in it) then you must call the customer service phone number that you would have gotten on the packing slip or in the e-mail from your previous order. If that's not handy, here's a phone number (it might be the same one) which ought to work: for the purpose: 1-800-790-1494. But you must order by phone; you cannot order at the Legendary Heroes website because the upgrade path isn't built into the online store's check-out procedure. Why not? Because the customer service agent who helps you will be manually looking up your purchase of the original
Season 1 Blu-ray set, to confirm that you qualify for the discount. So be sure and be ready to provide them with information about how you purchased it last time, what address it was sent to, etc.
The $15 discount should bring the price of the
Season 1 Blu-ray re-release to $24.95 (as of this writing; currently LegendaryHeroes.com is selling it for $39.95, which is discounted from the list price). We think it's worth noting here that some customers may actually feel that this "isn't enough." We'd like to remind them that there really isn't anything "wrong" or "defective" about the first version of
Season 1 on Blu-ray. Davis-Panzer has done their best to take a show that was produced to be broadcast from standard-resolution videotape, a medium which isn't really compatible with high-definition standards, and upconvert it to higher resolutions using the best available technology. After the release of the first version, new technology became available to them, and since the studio was doing the rest of the seasons using that new-and-improved upconverting process, they felt it was the right thing to do to have the first season be available at the same level, and to give people who purchased the previous version some sort of break on upgrading to that version. Many studios wouldn't have done that much, and we should congratulate Davis-Panzer for taking the extra steps here in the name of doing as much for the fans as they are able to!
