Looking back through our last few news stories about the
August 28th release of
Heroes - Season 1 from Universal, we see that we
had the DVD box art (but not the HD-DVD box art version), that we had
a list of extras rumored for DVD and HD-DVD (but not confirmed by the studio), and then
Universal's press release(which confirmed DVD extras, but didn't go into details about the HD-DVD version).
But now the studio is planning on posting a two-page
Heroes ad in upcoming issues of home video industry trade magazines, which features the box art and the list of extras for the HD-DVD version of the set. We've gotten an advance look at the ad, and not only does it have the HD-DVD goods, but there's some more info about the standard DVD box set.
This ad confirms that the standard DVD set will include "Commentary with Cast, Crew and Show Creators". On the other hand, it doesn't say how much commentary (as in how many episodes, or which episodes). So, for all we know, that's only applying to the original 73-minute unaired pilot, which we already knew from the press release would have commentary from at least Tim Kring.
Another interesting item mentioned in the ad is that the DVD is "in eye-catching holographic foil packaging". We presume that applies to the HD-DVD packaging as well, which you can see in high resolution at the bottom of this story, just below the small shot of the ad layout. But first we have this graphic, listing all the additional HD-DVD bonus material:
As you can see, this confirms each of the rumored HD-DVD extras we already talked about in our previous news, plus gives more details about them. For example, knowing that the Picture-In-Picture video commentaries will be on precisely 12 episodes, and knowing that the "Helix Revealed" extras is all about "the Hidden Helix Symbol Revealed Throughout the Series". Nice.
