Through the ages of history and myth, there's never been another hero like the mighty Hercules (Kevin Sorbo), whose awesome physical prowess is only surpassed by the strength of his heart. Discover why he's held the imagination of countless viewers with every Season One episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

This compelling TV series from Executive Producer Sam Raimi (Spider-Man movies) follows the warrior from his humble beginnings as a child born to a beautiful mortal woman and Zeus, king of the gods, to his explosive battles against power-hungry immortals, deceptive demons, massive monsters, and bloodthirsty armies. With special guest appearances by Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness), Renée O'Connor (Xena: Warrior Princess) and Hollywood legend Anthony Quinn, it's an unforgettable trip into the world of legends with a man who will never rest as long as people need his help.
Previously available as a 2003 Anchor Bay release (now discontinued), this morning Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced they putting out a new DVD set on April 20th of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - Season 1. You'll get a much slimmer set this time, though, with only 3 single-sided discs in the set for $26.98 SRP (compared to Anchor Bay's original $89.98 SRP price tag for a 7-disc set).

How can it get so thin? There were six regular seasons of the show, with 13 episodes in the first regular season, broadcasting from January to May of 1995. But there were also 5 telefilms which aired before that, all in 1994, and those had been included on Anchor Bay's first season set. It's possible (even probable) that those feature-length stories aren't part of Universal's Season 1 set, given the low number of discs.

However, the studio's initial round of information doesn't say, nor does it provide package art yet. And Anchor Bay's release had numerous extras, but no bonus material has been mentioned so far for the Universal version. The only other info concerns A/V specs: the video is full frame, audio is English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, and English subtitles are included for the Journeys. Stay tuned for updates!
