In early November we
updated you about the situation with an American release of VEI's
Hell's Kitchen - Season 2: Raw and Uncensored on DVD, which has
been available in Canada since October 27th. The distribution to the USA got delayed, but now VEI has worked out a couple of things.
Unknown to us, earlier this month (on December 7th) VEI began selling the set in the USA
exclusively via Amazon.com, basically taking the same package from Canada and sending shipments through customs to Amazon at a $27.78 SRP. Right now, ordering it online through Amazon is the only way to get it. At the time of this writing, however, Amazon is sold out, and says they expect new orders to ship "
within 2 to 4 weeks."
But Amazon.com also has
a second listing for the same title, recently added, that shows a release date of
March 2nd...and a studio name of "First Look Pictures." It also has a slightly less expensive list price, of $24.98 SRP, leading to a cheaper discounted cost in turn (currently $17.49, but that could change without notice, at Amazon's discretion). What's the situation?
We contacted VEI and inquired about the second listing, and were told that this represents a general retail release for the USA, happening the first week of March. Note that the timing is possibly designed to tie in with the broadcast debut of the reality show's 7th season on the Fox Network, but nothing has been pinned down about that yet. Whether or not that's the case, the USA general retail release will make this 3-disc set available not just online, but also in your local stores for the first time. Package art and disc contents are expected to be the same; it will just be more convenient to your neighborhood. But if you don't want to wait, then you have the option to order from the Amazon-exclusive link provided above...your choice!
