IS NOW IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND!
Owners of Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) jumped for joy when we
posted news about the first TV-on-UMD release,
Spider-Man - The New Animated Series (which streets today!). Since then there has been very little solid word of other TV-on-UMD releases. MGM (now owned by Sony) has discussed a mid-September release of
Stargate: Atlantis, but hasn't officially announced it yet. Ditto for Paramount's talk of a late August release of
Viva La Bam on UMD. Paramount (and sister companies Comedy Central, MTV and Nick) have also mulled UMD releases of such shows as
Chappelle's Show, South Park, Ren & Stimpy, SpongeBob Squarepants, and possibly
WildBoyz. Also, TheDigitalBits.com has reported that Image Entertainment is talking about a possible release of
The Twilight Zone for the UMD format on your PSP system. None of these, mind you, have been officially set up with retailers by the studios in question.
Now BCI has jumped ahead of the pack and begun soliciting UMD releases of
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - The Best Top 5 Episodes: Season 1 and
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - The Best Top 5 Episodes: Season 2. Each one is due on
August 23rd, and lists for $19.98 (Amazon's pre-order prices are $13.99 for each one).
This is essentially the same release as the 2-DVD set
we've told you about,
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Best 10 Episode Collector's Edition (due July 12th), but with the discs converted to UMD format and sold separately. It's unknown at this time if the DVD extras will also be included on the PSP version. Here is the episode breakdown for each UMD:
