The 2002 "Mike Young Productions" version of
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has now been completed on DVD with releases of
Volume 1,
Volume 2 and the just-shipped
Volume 3. Some fans are wondering, however, about the status of BCI's plans - which we
reported about last September - to release the series on hi-def Blu-ray Disc. We've gotten an update about that!
In a recent post at the
Home Theater Forum website, BCI's David Levine responded to a question by longtime HTF member Mike Frezon, asking about the status of the Blu-ray releases for
He-Man. Levine responded by pointing out BCI's concerns related to the growth of the "TV-on-BD" (TV Shows on Blu-ray Disc) category that have held up this release. Nevertheless, Levine says that the are still planning on the Blu releases of Eternia's champion:
"...I'll be surprised if we put out the Blu-Ray before next summer...my best guess is it's something we'll debut at Comic-Con next July."
Keep in mind that he seemed to be speaking fairly "off the cuff" there, and that these aren't rock-solid plans yet. And it could be subject to change, or to cancellation, of course. But this is the best info we've had for a while in regard to the status of the hi-def
He-Man project. We'll be keeping an eye on it naturally, so stay tuned and we'll fill you in as developments occur.
