Shirley Booth won a "Best Actress" Oscar in 1953 for Come Back, Little Sheba, and the same year won her 3rd Tony award for Broadway plays, including one in 1950 for the stage production of Sheba in the same role. Booth completed the trifecta in 1962 (and again in 1963) by winning a Best Actress Emmy Award for her hilarious role in Hazel, in which she plays a wisecracking housekeeper.
Hazel debuted on NBC in 1961, and she worked for the Baxter family. By the Fall of 1965 the show moved to CBS, and the Baxters moved out of the country, so Hazel Burke (a character that originated in Saturday Evening Post cartoons) went to work for George Baxter's brother, Steve. Now Hazel will go to work on your funny bone, this time on DVD!
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is announcing today that Hazel - The Complete 1st Season will come out in a 4-DVD set on August 1st. $39.95 SRP gets you all 35 episodes from the program's debut season, the first of five. We're not sure what extras, if any, will be on this set, but stay tuned. We'll be back in the near future with further details, plus cover art, for this classic television DVD release.
