Wow, this is a surprise that the folks at Universal Studios Home Video certainly kept from us here at TVShowsOnDVD! With all the news throughout 2004 about new TV-to-DVD titles coming from the studio in 2005 and beyond, Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries never came up at all (at least to my knowledge).
But - proving that you just never know what to expect, or when to expect it - Universal has announced this morning that the Glen Larson-produced show (Larson is probably best known for Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, and Knight Rider) is coming to DVD on March 22nd!
Starring Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy as Frank and Joe Hardy, and pretty much launching the career of a pre-Dynasty Pamela Sue Martin in the role of Nancy Drew, the show would usually alternate between Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew stories each week, with the occassional team-up between the three teen-size private eyes. The short first season had a pilot episode plus 13 regular episodes, and word from Universal is that we can expect all of that on the initial DVD release.
$39.98 is the list price for 2 DVDs that will probably be double-sided to accomodate the hour-long episodes. Detailed specs aren't available yet, nor is cover art, but we're anxiously anticipating this one here and will bring you the info very quickly once it's available. In case you can't tell, this news makes me very happy to write about, and I'm sure it will bring a smile to many of you, too! Stay tuned for more.
