A roughly 13-year-old Jim Carrey appears as a gang member in the 3rd Season episode "Fonzie the Flatfoot". In the very next episode we see the very first appearance of Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney, getting "A Date with Fonzie" in the first of several appearances, and on their way to spin-off show Laverne & Shirley. Other great guest stars this year included Dick Van Patten, Anne Lockhart, Amy Irving, radio legend Jack Smith, Rance Howard (father of Ron "Richie Cunningham" Howard), June Lockhart, and Jack Dodson. All this in the final season with Pat Morita running "Arnold's", before Arnold sold the place to Al. This latter part of this season also saw the return of a second-season "one-shot" character named "Spike" (one of Fonzie's cousins), which next season would morph into Scott Baio's "Chachi" (another of Fonzie's cousins).
Happy Days - The 3rd Season is a landmark season in the show's history, changing gears in a number of ways. A 4-DVD set, running 580 minutes, is coming to stores on November 27th. Cost is $38.99 list price, but you can pre-order it from Amazon for a current discounted price of $29.49. We do expect some music replacement on this set, in order for CBS/Paramount to bring it out at all. To what extent that will be, we probably won't know until it actually arrives. One thing to probably not have to worry about is replacement of the theme song, though: this was the first year of broadcast that "Rock Around The Clock" was replaced with the home-grown "Happy Days" theme song we refer to up there in our story's headline.
